ABOUT
James Mackie is a House & Garden Top 100 Interior Designer. He founded his practice J. James Mackie Ltd in 2020 with a philosophy to work on a small number of residential projects at a time to ensure quality of service and execution. James’ aesthetic is a synthesis of a long held interest and academic background in architectural history and the decorative arts, in particular the evolution of English country house style, allied with a discerning eye honed by an art world career centred on 20th century modernism. Together these elements make for sophisticated, timeless interiors that through a highly collaborative process provide a frame for the unique lives and needs of each individual client.
James' work has appeared in House & Garden, Homes & Gardens and The English Home.
Biography
Prior to establishing the company in 2020 James held senior positions in the international auction houses for more than two decades, including heading Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art department in London and board Director of Bonhams before that. The company today is founded on James’ years of experience, expertise and academic background in architectural history and the decorative arts.
